Counterparts – Rockhampton Art Gallery
August 9 @ 9:00 am - September 6 @ 11:00 am AEST$140
Rockhampton Art Gallery’s Collection disproportionately represents male artists, despite statistics showing the demographic of living practitioners, particularly in the Central Queensland region, primarily consist of women.
This awareness was brought about from The Countess Report, a 2016 resource which details gender equality in the Australian contemporary art sector. Using this document as a platform for further study, selected women visual arts practitioners from the Central Queensland region were invited to undertake a one-week research internship with Rockhampton Art Gallery, from which they accessed and researched the history of the Gallery’s art acquisitions by female artists. Share art with your counterpart via this series of workshops is designed for parents with prams, don’t miss this opportunity to develop your skills in a supportive environment where you are welcome to bring along your young child. Take some time for yourself on a Friday morning with a group of like-minded parents!
Counterparts is an exhibition that brings together the voice of regional artists through explorations of works held in Rockhampton Art Gallery’s nationally significant collection.
